Tauqir all praise for Ashwin

After a nine-wicket hammering by India, the UAE skipper Mohammad Tauqir heaped praise on R Ashwin who won the man of the match award for his figures of 4/25 here on Saturday.

“He bowled extremely well,” said Tauqir. “More than his turn, I think, it was the bounce that was creating a problem for us. He was getting some very good bounce and yes, of course, he bowled well. He took four wickets, and he won them the game.”

Tauqir admitted the bouncy Perth, though far from its usual menacing nature, caused some difficulty. “Yes, it is one of the most difficult wickets in the world. I think it’s got a lot of bounce and carry. I think they outplayed us with their bowling. They bowled with some excellent areas, and we couldn't keep up with that.”

Not doing the basics, Tauqir said, right was their undoing. “I think the basic thing is to play all 50 overs. I think we got out in 30‑odd overs  which was not good, and the batters need to be more responsible and learn from their mistakes and play all 50 overs in the next game.”

Tauqir said his side could only learn from playing big nations like India on a regular basis. “The whole tournament is a learning experience for us,” he noted.  “We don't play World Cup or these nations as regularly as we should be, but as I said, the whole tournament is a learning experience.”
