18 'caught' for cricket betting in Mysore

The accused browsed website BETFAIR designed for the purpose

 The accused totalling 18, including a student, had rented four rooms in a hotel on the outskirts of City, to carry on their act. Majority of the accused are from Mysore. They had already transacted Rs 37.5 lakh, on the second semi-final match of ICC Champions Trophy held between New Zealand and Pakistan at South Africa. The articles seized from the hotel include electronic gadgets worth Rs 20 lakh, besides Rs 31,000 in cash.

The prime accused in the case, Tulsiram Bhagre (53) of Siddarthanagar is absconding along with two of his accomplices. Explaining their modus operandi, Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal said, they frequently browsed website, ‘BETFAIR’ designed exclusively for the purpose. After retrieving informations related to the amount of bet on particular teams, irrespective of sports, they were confirming the same with their counterparts in Bangalore and Mumbai. It was only after this, they were resuming their business through local bookies, Sunil said.  They were into the betting from the past two months. Apart from ODIs, they had also invested huge amount of money on county matches and in sports like tennis and football, he added. All the 18 accused have been released on bail.
