2K temporary shelters for flood victims

The government on Monday announced a compensation of Rs 3,800 per family housed in relief camps in Kodagu and also assured construction of 2,000 temporary shelters within a week.

Addressing a press conference here, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said the compensation amount will be part of phase one of rehabilitation measures that will be undertaken by the government.

The temporary shelters will be built using aluminium sheets and will come up at a cost of Rs 10,000 each, replete with toilets and water connection. At present, there are 6,620 affected people in relief camps and they will be shifted to temporary shelters soon. The government will then work towards providing permanent houses to the affected. Officials have already started looking for suitable locations.
