3rd Saturday may be holiday for govt staff this month

Last Updated 07 October 2018, 18:54 IST

The state government is contemplating to declare third Saturday a holiday for its employees instead of the usual second Saturday this month. However, this arrangement will be only for the month of October.

The logic is this: Holidays for Ayudha Pooja and Vijayadashami are falling on October 18 and 19 respectively and October 21 is a Sunday. It is usually seen that many employees tend to take leave on the intervening Saturday (October 20). Instead, October 20 will be declared a holiday and employees will be asked to work on second Saturday (October 13).

Sources in the Chief Minister’s office said that the move is a result of the suggestion of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) is likely to issue official orders in a day or two, the sources added.
