Forty-one passengers, all from Kolkata, were injured when the private bus they were travelling toppled on the outskirts of Maddur town, on Mysuru-Bengaluru highway, on Sunday.

The tourists were returning to Bengaluru after visiting Mysuru. The injured were provided first aid at the Maddur hospital and later shifted to the district hospital in Mandya. According to sources, the driver lost control over the vehicle when he tried to avoid hitting a stationary lorry on the road. The bus veered off the road and rolled into the roadside ditch. The police, along with the locals, pulled the passengers out of the bus and shifted them to the hospital.

Around 65 tourists had left Kolkata on a South India tour on February 17. After visiting Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, they had come to Mysuru. The Maddur police have informed their Kolkata counterparts. The patients would be discharged on Tuesday, according to the doctors in the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences.
