6 monkeys found dead in Kundapur taluk

Six monkeys were found dead at Pernadka, Shiralu Kaduhole in Karkala, Kodladi, Mandalli and Moorthu villages in Kundapur taluk on Tuesday.

The viscera of monkeys found at Mandalli and Moorthu have been sent to laboratory for testing. A team from Manipal Centre for Virus Research (MCVR), Manipal, carried out surveillance at Shirooru, Golihole and Keradi.

District Nodal Officer Dr Prashanth Bhat said that the viscera of 46 monkeys found dead in Udupi district had been received to laboratory and the report of 40 monkeys have reached. Only 12 monkeys were found with virus of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD).

He said that awareness is being created on KFD in primary health centres in rural areas.

Meanwhile, the test reports of 25 suspected cases KFD) from Udupi district in the last few weeks have turned negative. The tests were conducted at the Manipal Centre for Virus Research.
