Five people, including three children, went missing when a motor boat used to rescue people capsized on the Malaprabha river in Hiremagi village. Overcrowding is suspected to be the cause for the accident. The force of the water in the river has hindered the rescue operations. Officials said that the chances of finding the five alive was bleak as the water level  is constantly rising.

At least 20 villages including Pattadkal, Hiremagi, Alur are completely inundated and hundreds of people are feared stranded. All road links to Kudalasangama have been disrupted. The worsening weather has made rescue operations through helicopters difficult and authorities are depending  extensively on motor boats.

In Maregudhi village in Jamakhandi taluk, a women and her two sons were killed when their house collapsed. Sayavva Virupakshaiah Ikyamata (42), and her sons Basaiah Ikyamata (26) and Kumar Ikyamata (19) are the deceased.
