8.41 lakh students to face SSLC exam from March 21

As many as 8,41,666 students will appear for the SSLC examination in the state scheduled to be held from March 21 to April 4. A total of 10,572 students will not be able to take the exams due to shortage of attendance.

The students from 14,450 schools - 5,202 government schools, 3,244 aided and 6,004 private - are attending the examination conducted by Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board. Out of the total 2,847 exam centres, 46 have been identified as sensitive and seven as highly sensitive. CCTV cameras have been installed in 2,630 centres.

While Kalaburagi has the maximum number of highly sensitive centres (5) Yadgir has two. Sensitive centres have been identified in Kolar, Madhugiri, Mandya, Haveri, Chikkodi, Vijayapura, Yadgiri, Kalaburagi, Koppal and Bidar districts. Kalaburagi has 17 of them.

Boys outnumber girls appearing for the examination. While 4,47,864 boys will take the exams the number of girls is 3,93,802.

As many as 4,651 students with special needs are taking the exams this year. To ensure there is no room for paper leakage, papers have been kept in the district treasuries and would be under CCTV surveillance round-the-clock. Ban orders will be clamped in a radiums of 200 mts of examination centres and photocopying centres in this area will be shut during
exams.

OMR sheets will not be used during evaluation starting this academic year according to P C Jaffer, commissioner, department of Public Instruction.

The evaluation of papers would commence on April 10 in the 230 evaluation centres in 34 education districts across the state. A total of 77,754 evaluators will be deputed for the purpose.

Evaluations of the SSLC paper will be conducted in parts due to elections. Jaffer said that evaluation in North Karnataka regions would be before elections while in South Karnataka it will have to be done post elections for security reasons. However, it is expected that results would be announced earlier than usual.
