Attempt to murder Ballari corporator foiled, one held

A plot to murder Ballari City Corporation corporator Seetharam by a gang of eight from Tadpatri in Andhra Pradesh was foiled by locals here on Thursday night.

The gang armed with weapons, including machetes, was spotted at the corporator's house at Andral in the city at around 8 pm on Thursday. Sensing threat to his life, Seetharam informed the locals. The locals apprehended a member of the gang and handed him over to the police.

The police have seized sharp weapons from the arrested.

The APMC police have registered a case and hunt is on to nab the suspects.

A few years back, an attempt was made to kill Seetharam by hurling country-made bombs at the house of the corporator.

According to police, Seetharam, a former rowdy-sheeter, was involved in several criminal cases.

The police suspect an old rivalry behind the plot to kill the corporator.
