BCU commn dept to be shifted to Jnanabharathi campus

Last Updated 01 August 2018, 16:27 IST

The Communication department currently situated at the Bangalore Central University (BCU) campus, will be shut down for this academic year (2018-19) due to staff shortage and lack of basic amenities. The department will be shifted to the Jnanabharathi campus instead.

Communication students in the BCU campus will need to commute to Jnanabharathi. The department there has a well-equipped studio for the course.

"We are not scrapping the Communication course because it is highly sought after. We will add more courses next academic year,” said BCU Registrar Ramchandra Gowda.

“The BCU department has not been upgraded for several years. We will set up a journalism and mass communication subject matter experts' committee to revamp the syllabus and advise on setting up a well-equipped studio on campus," Gowda added.

The BCU campus is in the heart of Bengaluru and is well connected by BMTC and Metrorail. Jnanbharathi is on the outskirts of Bengaluru, on Mysuru road."It takes at least two hours to commute from home,” said a postgraduate student who lives in Hebbal.

The Communication department was established in 1973 and it was the first university to have a television studio on campus. Thousands of students have passed out with journalism and electronic media postgraduate degrees from this campus.
