In Belagavi, BJP’s Jolle couple to contest from neighbouring seats

For the first time in the district, a couple will be in the fray for Assembly elections. They will contest as BJP candidates from the neighbouring constituencies of Nippani and Chikkodi-Sadalga.The BJP has announced the candidature of Shashikala Jolle from Nippani and her husband Annasaheb Jolle from Chikkodi-Sadalga.

Shashikala is the sitting legislator and has been renominated by the party for the May 12 election. She was trounced by a Congress candidate Kakasaheb Patil in 2008, but avenged the defeat by getting elected in the 2013 election.

Annasaheb Jolle had been defeated in the 2004 election from the Sadalga seat at the hands of veteran Congress leader Prakash Hukkeri.

This time, Annasaheb is up against Ganesh Hukkeri, Prakash’s son, who is the Congress candidate. Among other candidates from the same family contesting the elections in the district are: Cooperation Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi from Gokak constituency and AICC secretary Satish Jarkiholi from Yamakanamaradi as Congress candidates and MLA Balachandra Jarkiholi as BJP candidate from the Arabhavi seat.
