Belagavi student emerges VTU topper with 13 golds

For the first time, a local engineering student, Ahad Tarade, will be awarded 13 gold medals for emerging the BE topper at the 14th annual convocation of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), said vice chancellor H Maheshappa.

He said the VTU convocation will be held on May 9 at 11 am at the varsity headquarters, Janan Sangama, here. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will deliver the convocation address. Governor and VTU Chancellor, Vajubhai Vala, will preside over the function in the presence of Minister for Higher Education R V Deshpande, he said.
Maheshappa said Tarade, a student at KLS Gogte Institute of Technology, Belagavi, emerged the topper with the highest aggregate marks in all the eight semesters in BE Civil Engineering. He is also the topper across all the BE branches and the engineering colleges affiliated to the VTU.

Seven gold medals will be awarded to Abhilash A S of Bangalore Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, who topped BE Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Five gold medals will be awarded to K R Sathyajit of RNS Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, who topped BE Electronics and Communication Engineering. Five gold medals will be awarded to Akash Kumar R of Bangalore Institute of Technology, who topped BE Computer Science and Engineering. Four gold medals will be awarded to Vidyasagar R of Reva Institute of Technology and Management, Bengaluru, who topped BE Mechanical Engineering, said the vice chancellor.

The VTU will confer 50,528 BE degrees, 138 BArch degrees, 5,284 MBA degrees, 3,401 MCA degrees, 6,650 MTech degrees and 14 MArch degrees at the convocation. The university will also award 109 doctorates and 20 MSc (engineering) degrees.
