Following the denial of the BJP ticket to their leader, supporters of former MLA Belur Gopalakrishna on Monday hurled stones at the BJP office and damaged the windows.
Earlier, Gopalakrishna’s supporters stoned the party’s election campaign vehicle parked on Shivamogga Road in the town. The LED screen attached to the vehicle was damaged.
The party has given the Sagar ticket to Haratalu Halappa, a former MLA from Sorab overlooking the claims of Gopalakrishna. Now, Gopalakrishna may join the JD(S) and face the polls on its symbol as he did in the 2013 Assembly elections. If not, he may join the Congress and campaign in favour of its nominee Kagodu Thimmappa, who is also his close relative.
