BJP demands rollback of fuel price hike, slams govt

Last Updated 14 January 2019, 08:54 IST

The Opposition BJP demanded Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to withdraw the hike in fuel prices in the state, while slamming the Congress-JD(S) coalition for “supporting” the Bharat Bandh on Tuesday.

“Fuel prices have decreased across India, but this Congress-JD(S) government has increased tax on fuel. They should be ashamed that they did not allow the benefit of the reduction in fuel price to be passed on to the commoners,” BJP general secretary C T Ravi charged.

Karnataka’s tax component per litre of petrol is Rs 20.59 and for diesel Rs 13.75, Ravi pointed out. “This is three times the tax levied by the Centre. When fuel prices reduce, they say it’s because of reduction in global crude oil prices. But when there’s an increase, they blame only Modi,” Ravi added.

The “failure” of Tuesday’s Bharat Bandh was testimony to the support of the working class toward Modi, BJP MLC N Ravi Kumar said.
