BJP govt in Maharashtra more generous to Karnataka in water release'

Union Minister Ananth Kumar said on Saturday that wherever the BJP was ruling, the government was pro-people.

Addressing the executive committee meeting of the state BJP, he said, “Till the Congress was in power in Maharashtra, whenever Bagalkot, Vijayapura and other districts of Karnataka were in distress, it would not oblige the request of Karnataka for release of water from Koyna dam. Even when Maharashtra released water, Karnataka was charged an exorbitant Rs 3 crore per tmc feet. Now, the Devendra Fadnavis government of the BJP in Maharashtra has released 5 tmc feet of water in two instalments, free of cost.”

BJP general secretary Muralidhar Rao said a Congress-free Karnataka movement would give a big boost to the Congress-free India movement launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said the two main points for discussion at the meeting were achieving 150-plus target in the 2018 Assembly elections and 25-plus target in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Asserting that development agenda alone will triumph, he said, “In the fight against terrorism, the stand of the Congress and other Opposition parties is not clear. The Congress should clarify whether it is in favour of the nation or not,” he said.
