BJP pamphlets, Modi slogans at Cong meet raise eyebrows

Confusion prevailed for a while when a group of party workers distributed handbills of the BJP during a Congress party workers meeting here on Thursday.

A meeting was convened by KPCC vice-president B Shivaram when a group of rebel Congress workers shouted slogans hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and started distributing the pamphlets. They also tried to disturb the speech of Shivaram.

A few workers started shouting slogans that JD(S) was the real communal party. The JD(S) leaders have been involved in caste abuse against an Independent candidate in Mandya (Sumalatha) and have aligned with Congress for personal gains, they said.

This caused a huge embarrassment to district unit president Javagal Manjunath, leaders C S Puttegowda and others. The efforts of the Congress leaders to pacify the agitating crowd turned futile. At the same time, another group of workers started raising slogans against the Congress leaders. The meeting ended in confusion amid the slogans.

Shivaram said, “The problems faced by the Congress workers after the coalition government came to power has been brought to the notice of the high command. We have taken the challenge of making Rahul Gandhi the prime minister and alliance with JD(S) was inevitable to keep communal forces away”, he said.

MLC M A Gopalaswamy explained that the disappointment of the Congress workers was not surprising as the ground-level workers were against the JD(S). Those who had raised slogans in support of Modi were BJP workers, he clarified.
