The state BJP, on Saturday, had a field day poking fun at Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who flew down to Bengaluru to interact with employees of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

In a series of tweets, the saffron party took a dig at Rahul, his family and the Congress.

The BJP, which labelled Rahul as the country’s “best comedian,” mocked the Congress' attempts to gain political mileage over the Rafale row.

“Tired of Bengaluru traffic, potholes and failure of Cong-JD(S) govt? Relax and get ready for laughter as the best comedian of the country will be in town to perform at Cubbon Park this weekend. We welcome Rahul Gandhi to Bengaluru as we eagerly wait for his stand-up comedy,” read one of the tweets.

In an earlier tweet, referring to the HAL union’s refusal to meet Rahul, the BJP said, “Not surprised! A prestigious aerospace and defence company like HAL knows for a fact that Rahul is not worthy their time. What can a aerospace company expect from a man who says it should manufacture T-shirts and mobiles. Rahul should limit his speeches only to his cheerleaders.”

The party also countered Rahul’s tweets batting for HAL. “We hope the potholes in the city greeted you. What you should actually talk to ex-HAL employees today is the legacy of your family to loot the country in the name of defence deal. Be it Bofors or Jeep scandal, Congress looted it all,” read a tweet.

Earlier in the day, BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje wanted to know in what capacity was Rahul addressing the HAL employees. She said he doesn’t have the authority and that the interactive meet was organised at a “restricted” area.

She said the Congress president was only spreading lies against the BJP and the Rafale deal.

BJP MLA C T Ravi and spokesperson Ashwathanarayana hurled a series of questions at Rahul on the Rafale deal during the NDA rule, demanding answers for the same.
