Call on merging health insurance schemes soon: CM

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday said that the government would take a suitable decision on merging the state and central health insurance schemes - Arogya Karnataka and Ayushman Bharath, after weighing the pros and cons of the merger.

Kumaraswamy, who chaired a meeting of the Health department officials, later said the matter would be discussed with experts in the medical fraternity.

The chief minister has also directed Health department officials to devise programmes that are helpful to the needy.

Health Minister Shivanand Patil and Chief Secretary T M Vijay Bhaskar were present at the meeting.

While Karnataka’s Arogya Karnataka has a health coverage of Rs 1.5 lakh per family, Ayushman Bharat covers up to Rs 5 lakh per family, catering to BPL families.
