JOIN US The Union Ministry of Rural Development has selected Chitradurga for the ‘Best District’ award in implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS).
The honour comes in recognition of the successful programme for recharging borewells in the district, taken up under the scheme. The award will be presented at a ceremony to be held on February 2 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, Chitradurga Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Nitesh Patil said on Friday.
“It was planned to instal groundwater recharge system for 3,783 borewells in the district this year and the work has been completed on 1,506 borewells. A total of 13,773 projects - both community and individual - have been taken up under MNREGS of which 3,658 have been completed,” Patil added.
The job guarantee scheme is being implemented in 640 districts across the country and of these seven are being honoured with the award for their performance.
