CM: Will apologise, if my words hurt seers

Two days after he called upon religious heads in the state to stop indulging in politics, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday said he was willing to apologise if his remarks had hurt any pontiff.

At his maiden press meet after taking over as chief minister on Wednesday, Kumaraswamy had launched a tirade against Sanehalli Taralabalu Mutt pontiff Panditaradhya Shivacharya Swami (without taking his name) for attacking his coalition government.

Kumaraswamy immediately attracted the wrath of the BJP, while the seer himself had shot off a letter to the chief minister chiding him for his “loose talks.”

Speaking to reporters at his home office ‘Krishna’ ahead of the vote of confidence on Friday, Kumaraswamy said that he was ready to apologise, if he had done anything wrong.

“I respect all religious seers. I have only appealed to a select few seers not into indulge in politics. So far I have not received any letter from any swamiji. If anybody is pained by my remarks, I am willing to apologise. I will not take anybody lightly, and I expect that nobody take me or my government lightly,” he added.
