BJP leaders including Chief Minister Yeddyurappa lashed out at the Congress. The Congress had no moral right to criticise the BJP as it did not deliver goods when it was in power. In the next assembly elections the BJP will bag not less than 150 seats and will continue in power for next 20 years, he claimed.

Addressing a mammoth convention, the CM reiterated that Bhagyalakshmi scheme beneficiaries would get free education and free medical assistance till they attain the age of 18 years. District-wise conventions of the beneficiaries of these schemes would be held, he added.

BJP state president K S Eshwarappa took serious exception to Congress’ repeated demand for Chief Minister’s resignation. When they began the padayatra, Cong leaders expected that the government would collapse by the time they reach Bellary.

Health Minister B Sriramulu termed the Congress padayatra as an event to target the family of Reddys and himself and without any specific agenda. He said it did not matter if Congress leaders criticise them personally, but he would not tolerate ridicule of the people of Bellary. Sriramulu later in the evening put an end to his vratha (vow) of wearing black apparel and walking in slippers.

Reddys show

The convention at Bellary was the show of Bellary Reddys. The Reddy brothers and Sriramulu had the task of beating the Congress padayatra in terms of gathering huge crowd. The Municipal College ground, where the convention was held, was full to its capacity.
