Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Civil Supplies Ram Vilas Paswan said on Tuesday that the Siddaramaiah government had not done anything for the welfare of backward classes in the state.

Addressing a press meet, the president of the Lok Janashakthi Party (LJP) said, “The Congress government is an enemy of people belonging to backward classes. They have not done anything for the empowerment of SC/STs in the state,” he said. Emphasising the importance of reservation to SC/STs in the public sector, he said, “No Dalit leader had a representation in the Mandal Commission during the 90s.”

However, things have changed today with the way Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the country, to empower the poor and the Dalits, he said. “Our government is committed to the poor and we will continue to fight for reservation in promotion for SC/STs in the country,” said Paswan. All this will be made possible if people bring in a change in government in the state, said Paswan.

“There is no doubt that BJP will win with a thumping majority in the state assembly elections this time and our party, LJP, supports the efforts by BJP for the uplift of backward sections,” he said.
