Congress screening panel meet in Delhi today

Last Updated 11 March 2019, 11:03 IST

The Congress Screening Committee will meet in New Delhi on Monday to finalise the list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, said Mallikarjun Kharge, the member of Central Election Committee.

He told reporters, “The Congress will wrest power from the BJP, this time. There is a need to curb the communal forces to save democracy.” Replying to a query on Dr Umesh Jadhav’s comments, Kharge said, “I will not react to Jadhav’s statements. There is medicine for all ills except jealousy.”

Umesh Jadhav, who was elected from Chincholi Assembly constituency on Congress ticket in 2018, had recently quit the grand old party and joined the BJP. The BJP is most likely to pit Jadhav against Kharge from Gulbarga parliamentary seat.

Reacting to Public Works Minister H D Revanna’s sexist remarks on Sumalatha, Kharge said “Revanna is a senior leader. He should not have made such comments.”
