Cong, JD(S) state chiefs may get into panel

The coalition coordination and monitoring committee may be expanded to accommodate newly appointed Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dinesh Gundu Rao. The yet-to-be-named JD(S) state president may get a spot as well.

Currently, the Siddaramaiah-led committee has Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara, AICC general secretary incharge of Karnataka K C Venugopal and JD(S) leader Danish Ali as its
members.

A section of Congress leaders argues that the committee, which is meant to ensure the alliance partners work in tandem, has no representation for the state president of the party, a post that Parameshwara held when the coalition was stitched together.

“Kumaraswamy and Parameshwara were state presidents of JD(S) and Congress, respectively. Since they have resigned, the incumbent state presidents are likely to be made part of the committee,” sources said.

The Congress, which is preparing for early Lok Sabha elections, is desperate to ensure its alliance with the JD(S) continues smoothly till the general elections.

The coordination committee has met twice so far. Its next meeting is expected to discuss the nature of pre-poll alliance that the Congress and JD(S) should forge for the Lok Sabha elections, sources said.
