Cops lathicharge Vijayendra’s supporters as they go berserk

The protests by BJP workers against the party leaders for declining to field B Y Vijayendra from the Varuna Assembly constituency, continued for the second day on Tuesday.

The supporters of Vijayendra staged a dharna in front of a private hotel on Oooty Road, where BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa and other leaders were staying and were later joined by national leaders P Muralidhar Rao and Prakash Javadekar. The protesters also hurled stones at the BJP district office in the Ittigegud area in the city. They pulled down posters and the temporary boards and shouted sloans against Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ananth Kumar. They blocked the Bengaluru-Nilagiri Main Road in the city for sometime. The police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd.

Vijayendra’s supporters said that they would support the JD(S) candidate in Varuna, if anybody else is fielded from the constituency. They said they would strive to trounce any other candidate fielded from Varuna. They also expressed doubts about the BJP central leadership making Yeddyurappa the chief minister in case the party wins a majority.

They said the BJP has “died” in the Mysuru region and they will offer their last respects to the party.
