Council polls: Hegde bats for Ashwin Mahesh

Former Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde on Wednesday extended support to urban governance expert Ashwin Mahesh, who is contesting the Council elections from the Bangalore graduates’ constituency as a candidate of the Loksatta party.

Hegde said Ashwin was the right candidate as he was educated, committed and humble enough to understand the real problems of common people.

Hegde was addressing a press conference in the city. He said people should vote for public servants and not for those who act as ‘public maliks’ (masters). He said he would never join politics, but would support the “right” candidates as only they could bring changes.

Ashwin said: “For a long time, we as commoners have been believing that somebody will solve our problems. We have been silent spectators to all the bad things in government for the same reason. Unless we are part of active politics, we cannot expect changes.” He took a pledge that he would strive to be one of the best peoples’ representatives that the State has ever had, if elected.

Ashwin said so far Rs 25 lakh had been spent for campaigning, mainly to reach out to voters through post or courier.

Check voters’ list

Ashwin has called upon voters of the Bangalore graduates’ constituency to check whether their names figure in the voters’ list by dialing 7676557788, 9343388188 or logging on to www.ashwinmahesh.in
