Couple ends life as daughter refuses marriage

A couple committed suicide by hanging as their daughter refused to get married, at Ballapura village, Alur taluk, Hassan district, on Sunday night.

The victims are Puttaraju (58) and Kanthamma (53). According to villagers, they had fixed an alliance for their daughter and the engagement was scheduled for Sunday (February 14).

As the girl refused to get engaged, the dejected couple hanged themselves at the cattle shed.

According to family members, Puttaraju and Kanthamma had no children. Hence, they brought up two children - a boy and a girl, of their relatives from a young age.

They had married off their son. Now, they had arranged the marriage for the girl.

But, the girl refused to get engaged and left home on Sunday. She even threatened to end her life, if they insist on her getting married. The couple searched for the girl and brought her home and tried to convince her, but in vain. The upset couple ended their lives by hanging, villagers said.
