Court awards life term to wife-killer in 11 days

The principal district and sessions court has awarded life term to a man convicted for murder, within 11 days of the commission of the offence.

Parameshwaraswamy (75), a resident of Valase village in Challakere taluk of Chitradurga district, was accused of bludeoning his wife, Puttamma, to death on June 27. The Challakere police arrested the suspect on the same day. The charge sheet was filed into the court on June 28 while the forensic and post mortem reports were produced before the court in two days.

Principal district and sessions judge S B Vastramutt took up the case for trial on July 3. The court examined the witnessess for three days. The prosecution, which had named 30 witnesses in the charge sheet, examined only 17 decisive witnesses. The judge dictated the 50-page orders on the next day of hearing arguments. Public prosecutor B Jayaram said that Parameshwaraswamy used to pick quarrel with his wife suspecting her fidelity. . Girish, the son of the couple, had said that he had no hesitation to depose against his father.
