3 more industrial hubs being planned in State: George

IT-BT, Science & Technology and Large & Medium Industries Minister K J George stated that the government is planning to set up mega industrial hubs at three more places in the State, under Mumbai-Chennai industrial corridor project.

"Steps are already taken to develop such an industrial hub in Tumakuru, and search is on for three more places. Rs 10,000 acres of land is required for that, while the Union Government would provide upto Rs 3,000 crore investment," he said.

Though earlier he stated that industrial hubs may come up in Davangere, Hubballi and Belagavi, later he noted that places are yet to be decided, based on the availability of land.

Speaking to media persons after inaugurating VLSI/ESDM incubation centre at KLE Tech Park at KLE Technological University (KLETU) here on Tuesday evening, he stated that North Karnataka is the place for industrial growth in future, as manufacturing and other industries have started looking out of Bengaluru which is reaching the saturation point.

Places like Hubballi-Dharwad and Belagavi are suitable for industrial development, and new age startups are also coming up here. Skill and practical training has to be imparted to youngsters. The government would support the development of North Karnataka region, he noted.

Steps are being taken to provide infrastructure required to set up industries. We will start developing basic facilities for one time at industrial estates, and later industrialists' association have to maintain them, he said.

Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has no power to sell the land at Aryabhata Tech Park, and therefore, remaining land there is not allotted. The issue would be resolved, George added.
