The Chikkaballapur district is observing the occasion for the first time after its formation. Though this is the third Jayanthi after carving out of the district from Kolar, the occasion could not be observed with grandeur on earlier two occasions as election code of conduct was in force.

A big pandal has been erected in the Ambedkar College Hostel grounds. All the Dalit organisations have joined hands to observe Dr B R Ambedkar Jayanthi. A huge procession will be taken out in the City to mark the occasion.  The statue of Dr Ambedkar will be unveiled on the day. The 5-foot heigh fibre statue fibre has been made at Bangalore at a cost of Rs 3 lakh, informed District Social Welfare officer C S Jayaram.

A park has been constructed around the pedestal where the statue will be installed. The unveiling of the statue had added colour to this year’s Ambedkar Jayanthi.
All the elected representatives of the district have been invited for the programme.
