An amount of Rs 4.98 lakh was stolen from the SBI ATM on Vidyagiri Road in the city on Friday night.
The thieves used gas cutters to open the ATM machine.
Deputy Superintendent of Police S B Girish and senior bank officials visited the spot. Police said they were waiting for CCTV footage from the spot, which is recorded on the bank’s centralised server in Belagavi. The police said the ATM was outdated and did not have modern features like in-built camera, micro-chip, GPS and burglar alarm system. They has asked the banks to replace such machines.
