Biting cold in Chikkaballapur claims infant's life

A one-year-old baby girl fell prey to biting cold on Saturday at a camp near Kandavara on the outskirts of the town, where over 200 families are taking refuge in the makeshift tents.

The victim has been identified as Bhanu, daughter of Khadar Basha and Saidani. The girl was found dead on Saturday morning.

Chikkaballapur is experiencing biting cold and fog for the past few days.

Over 200 families, which were staying at Basappa Chatra land off BB Road in the town, relocated to the outskirts of Kandavara after the district administration took over the land for the construction of district Rangamandir six years back.

The administration has issued title deeds to the families but has not provided them the housing.

The aggrieved residents told DH that in the last six years, five children and four elderly persons, lining in the tents, have died due to biting cold.
