A few members, expressing reservation over taking up asphaltation, said that the City is experiencing heavy downpour and quality may suffer if the repair work is taken up at the present juncture. They suggested to fill the potholes only instead of asphalting the roads.

CMC president M Prakash said that the work is being taken up under State Finance Commission grants and utilisation of funds has already been delayed. The funds reserved for the work has remained unspent and the Deputy Commissioner has directed to secure the approval by calling an emergency meeting. Asphaltation will be carried out at suitable time during rainy season itself and all efforts will be made to ensure quality, he clarified.
Following the clarification furnished by the president, the meeting gave its approval to take up the asphaltation work.
