Deputy Commissioner G Satyavati on Thursday issued a set of do’s and don’ts to prevent recurrence of accidents in the district.

At the district road safety committee meeting, the DC stressed on the importance of taking measures with the district witnessing 206 fatal accidents against 958 road accidents, and 1,248 people injured in different cases in 2016.

The DC was categorical on school managements ensuring safety measures in toto, by installing speed governors in the vehicles ferrying students and also recruiting only drivers with five years and above experience. Autorickshaws and vans should not transport students above permitted level.

Taking cognisance of the potholes on the Chikkamagaluru-Hassan stretch and also the absence of sign boards ahead of speed breakers, the DC instructed the police, Regional Transport Office and PWD officials to take up a joint survey to initiate action. The meeting should be held once every two months, she added.

Following the complaints of some hospitals refraining from treating accident victims, Satyavati advised the health officer to conduct a meeting of private hospitals to attend to emergency cases without fail.
SP K Annamalai warned of action against traffic offenders, with some parts of the district still not adhering to rules, when compared to Sringeri, Koppa and NR Pura in Malnad region where the number of accidents has come down.

RTO Shivaraj Patil, EE Lokeshappa and AEE Anand were present.
