Speaking to Deccan Herald, Manjunath Kamath, secretary of Sugama Sangeetha Ganga, said that Ashwath was a guide for the organisation since its inception 10 years ago. “At least once in a month Ashwath used to make calls and enquire about Sugama Sangeetha Ganga. He was visiting Chikmagalur whenever he needed a break from his busy schedules. The atmosphere of Chikmagalur as well as the attachment towards his frieds in the district made him visit here frequently,” Kamath recalled.

Ashwath had brought out an audio cassette titled ‘Koodala Sangama’. It was a praiseworthy effort that Ashwath had sung Vachanas in Bengali, Kashmiri and classical styles. He had organised training camp in Vachana singing in Chikmagalur on October 18 and 19, 2003, Kamath said adding that about 90 artists had participated in the camp.

Ashwath had sent a five page guidance letter when ‘Geetotsava 2005’, the third convention of Karnataka Sugama Sangeetha Parishat, was held in Chikmagalur. He himself had taken initiative for the success of the convention. “Ashwath had nurtured many dreams with regard to several programmes in Chikmagalur,” Kamath reminisced.
