Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will conduct a review meeting on rain-affected areas on July 19 in Madikeri.

The meeting will be a part of the chief minister’s two-day visit to the district on July 19 and 20, Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya said.

Chairing a preliminary meeting at the DC’s office on Monday, she said that the chief minister is likely to offer prayers at Bhagamandala and Talacauvery on July 20. He will offer a traditional ‘bagina’ to Harangi reservoir, she added.

The deputy commissioner told the officials to prune the tree branches in Madikeri, Bhagamandala, Talacauvery, Guddehosur and Harangi roads and to repair the potholes on the road. The bridge near Bhagamandala should also be repaired as soon as possible, she said.

Srividya asked the officials to submit a report comprising accurate and comprehensive information on the crop loss in the district.

She also sought a separate report on the damage of roads in NH, PWD, Rural Development Department and urban local body jurisdiction. Information is needed on the damaged transformers and electricity poles, she said.

She directed the tahsildars to speed up the compensatory measures towards loss of houses and cattle. Procrastination in the distribution of compensation will not be tolerated, she warned the officials.

Gruel centres should be opened wherever necessary. The officials from all departments should work in coordination in order to solve public woes, she directed.

Zilla Panchayat CEO Prashant Kumar Misra directed the Panchayat Raj engineer to take up measures towards constructing proper bridges across the streams in rural areas. There is poor connectivity in many areas and people have been dependent upon makeshift bridges, he said.

Mishra sought a report in this regard. The loss should be estimated on the damage caused to school, college, hostels and anganwadi buildings, he said.

DySP P Sundarraj, DCF Manjunath, Agriculture Department Joint Director Shivkumar and Tahsildar Kusuma were present.
