Demanding the suspension of Superintendent of Police Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad, who is alleged to have violated rules in CPI Marappa’s case, lawyers here registered their protest by boycotting court proceedings on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the lawyers said, they had begun the protest on August 24. The government has failed to take action in the case, despite lodging a complaint with the Law minister and higher officials, they said.

They demanded the transfer of District Judge R J Satish Singh and warned of a nationwide protest if the authorities concerned fail to respond to their demands.

Bar Association president B T Lakshminarayan alleged dereliction of duty by district judge Satish Singh.

“Superintendent of Police,Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad, who should maintain law and order, is acting in favour of Inspector Marappa. The governm-ent should have ordered
judicial probe into the incident. The lawyers will stay away from the court proceedings till justice is done,” he warned.

The agitating lawyers alleged that the district judge has, in an abject hurry, stayed the lower court order to remand CPI Marappa in judicial custody.
