Shobharani represented Yellampalli Taluk Panchayat constituency, while Gowramma emerged victorious from Pathapalya constituency.

The poll was held on Thursday at the Taluk Panchayat auditorium, on Thursday.
Assistant Commissioner and election officer Vasanth Kumar announced that Shobharani and Gowramma were elected president and vice-president respectively, unopposed.

The CPI(M) won eight, Congress three and JD(S) three seats and an independent candidate won one seat in the elections to the 15 constituencies in Bagepalli taluk.

In the meeting organised on Wednesday, eight CPI(M) and  two Congress candidates participated.

However, three Congress candidates were conspicuous by their absence. CPI(M) Taluk Panchayat members and party activists took out a procession on main streets in Bagepalli and burst crackers on Thursday, celebrating the election of Shobharani and Gowramma of CPI(M) as president and vice president of Taluk Panchayat, for the first time.

Party sympathisers and members had gathered in large numbers to congratulate the newly-elected president and vice-president.

Traffic on main streets was affected due to the procession. Gudibande TP
Manjulamma of the JD(S), who won from the Polampalli constituency, was elected the new president of the Taluk Panchayat.

Narayanaswamy of the Congress, who belongs to Beechaganahalli constituency, was elected vice-president.

The JD(S) and the Congress therefore succeeded in their deal to prevent the CPI(M), which had garnered the maximum seats in the Panchayat, from winning the post of the president too.

The post of the president had been reserved for a woman candidate belonging to the general category. The vice-president's post was reserved for a candidate from a scheduled caste.
