Disinfectant sprayed at Mysuru zoo to prevent bird flu

The Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens (Mysore zoo) has taken precautionary measures, following the fear of bird flu outbreak in Bengaluru.

The zoo has nearly 800 varieties of birds. Vicron-s, a disinfectant, was sprayed on the zoo premises on Wednesday. Zoo workers sprayed the viral disinfectant near the bird enclosures and on the premises to ensure safety of the birds.

The zoo, for the first time in the history of 125 years, remained closed for the public for a month in 2017. The authorities closed the zoo after some free-range and migratory birds died of suspected Avian Influenza (H5N8).

Bird flu is a fever affecting birds including chicken, duck and swan. The virus can also be contracted by humans when they come in contact with an infected bird.
