First H1N1 flu victim in Chikkaballapur

Precautionary measures planned; DC asks public not to panic

He visited the government hospital here and held an emergency meeting with the district health and family welfare officer and other medical officers.

Later, speaking to reporters he said, medicines have been despatched to all the taluks in the district and the public need not panic.

The person who succumbed to H1N1 influenza in Kundalagurki village was suffering from astama and tuberculosis for the past 25 years. He was admitted to R L Jalappa Hospital on September 3 and he died on the next day. The report which came after his death confirmed that he was infected with H1N1 virus.

The deputy commissioner said, however, further investigation is on to ascertain exact cause of his death. Besides, none of his family members showed any symptoms of the flu and hence, probably they have not contracted the disease. Even the residents of Kundalagurki have shown no symptoms of the flu. Hence there is no need for panic, he observed.

If anyone found having the symptoms of the pandemic, they may immediately call 270199 and contact the district hospital. This will help a lot to check the spread of the flu, he added.

District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr Rajiv, Dr Narasimhamurthy, Dr Muniyappa, Head Quarteres Assistant to Deputy Commissioner G S Nayak and Assistant Commissioner G V Seenappa were present on the occasion.
