Five killed in ghastly highway accident, three hurt

Five people were killed on the spot and three others suffered serious injuries when a truck loaded with vegetables crashed into another mini-truck on the Pune highway. The mishap occurred on the outskirts of Nippani town, on Monday.

The truck was on its way from Ghataprabha in Gokak to Kolhapur. Its driver lost control of the vehicle near MGM hospital on the outskirts of the town, and it crashed head-on with an approaching mini-truck.

Four people in the truck and the driver of the mini truck were killed on the spot. Three others who suffered severe injuries were admitted to hospital at Kolhapur.

The deceased passengers in the Bolero were identified as Shabbir, Sayed, Nadeem, and Raju Ahmed. The deceased lorry driver was identified as Ramesh.

Nippani Town police have registered a case.
