Meanwhile, speaking to reporters, Varthur Prakash ruled out withdrawal of his candidate from the fray. “There is no question of withdrawal. Former minister K Srinivasa Gowda, who supported BJP during Lok Sabha elections has not been suspended from the party and there is no guarantee that it will be done. There can’t be two groups in a party and hence we have decided to contest independently,” he said. The MLA claimed that the elected representatives in the local bodies will support his candidate.

Exuding similar confidence, Union Minister K H Muniyappa on the other hand claimed that there is no contest at all in the election. “There is none to challenge us,” he declared speaking to reporters after Naseer Ahmed filed nomination as Congress candidate.

“Varthur Prakash was never in Congress in Kolar. KPCC president R V Deshapande has withdrawn the suspension ten other leaders. Other aspirants too will join hands for victory of the party candidate,” he said.

Candidate Naseer Ahmed said that people in Varthur faction too are of Congress and hoped that every person having faith in Congress will vote for him.
