Gowri Shankar blames Deve Gowda, HDK for JD(S) debacle

Former JD(S) MLA D C Gowri Shankar has alleged that absurd statements made by the party supremo and State president have hurt the party in the recently concluded panchayat elections.

In a press meet held here on Wednesday, the former Madhugiri MLA said, “In the Council election (Tumakuru civic bodies), the JD(S) candidate had won comprehensively. But the party came up with a dismal performance in the elections held for zilla and taluk panchayats because of some inappropriate remarks, including calling Zameer Ahmed Khan a descendent of Mir Sadiq, passed by H D Deve Gowda and H D Kumaraswamy.”

The Mir Sadiq remark has sent a wrong message to a particular community. I have faced a few embarrassing moments during campaigning for the party candidates when Muslim voters have questioned me about the Mir Sadiq slur, the former JD(S) MLA said.

Zameer Ahmed had held a meeting with the leaders of Muslim community in Hebburu, where the party candidate has lost by a very small margin, he said.

The party supremo and the State president should stop making inappropriate remarks and instead should strive to strengthen the party at grassroots level, urged Gowri Shankar son of Chennigappa former minister and one-time aide of Deve Gowda.

The people have not rejected JD(S) in Tumakuru district. The party candidates combined have received 59,533 votes in Tumakuru taluk while the BJP has polled 65,700 votes. At several places, the party candidates have lost by a small margin, the former MLA explained.
