Greater Mysore proposed

The much awaited Greater Mysore City Corporation came up at the last leg of the council meeting only to be presented for the information of elected representatives. 

The decision remains pending with the mayor adjourning the council.

The subject that attracted the attention of all, was taken up in the end.

Revenue officer S N Balachandra made presentation, saying 41 villages under 16 grama panchayats would be brought under the ambit of MCC, making it greater. According to recent census, Mysore has a population of nine lakh.

Adding to it is the population of 41 villages (1.8 lakh)  identified under the plan summing up 10.80 lakh calling for delimitation of wards from the existing 65 to between 95 and 105.

Creating basic amenities would require Rs 823 crore.  The expenditure could be met with grants from the govt, the officer said.
