Heavy showers: Extensive damage in Kodagu district

Several roads in the district have been inundated and many houses have been damaged due to heavy rain.

River Cauvery is in spate in Kottamudi. The Napoklu-Moornadu link road is submerged near Bolibane. Buses have stopped ferrying passengers from the last eight days.

Harischandra Temple in Paloory is submerged. Agricultural fields are inundated in Emmemadu village. The wall of a house belonging to Chondu in Pandet colony in Peruru village has collapsed.

A house belonging to Kaveri in Marandoda village was damaged after a huge tree fell on the roof of the house.

The sheets on the roof of a community hall in Subhash Nagar, Kooruli, have been damaged. Vehicular movement is hindered at Katikeri as a tree has fallen on Napoklu-Madikeri Road.

In Shanivarasanthe, a house belonging to Ratna Paramesh in Hosahalli village in Aluru-Siddapur limit has completely collapsed due to rain and gusty winds.

Village Accountant Rudraiah has conducted a spot inspection. A loss of Rs 4 lakh is estimated.

Roads have been damaged due to the unscientific underground drainage facility.

In Virajpet, a hill near Nehru Nagar water tank caved in. Several houses have been damaged in the region.

A house belonging to Shivamma in Nehru Nagar is on the verge of collapse.

Town Panchayat Chief Officer Hem Kumar has directed the shifting of members of the family to a safer location.

The rain began receding from Tuesday afternoon.

Water released

About 21,423 cusecs of water from the Harangi reservoir was released into the river on Tuesday morning.

A total of 2856.12 feet of water was stored in the dam as on Tuesday evening at 6 pm. The maximum storage level of the reservoir is 2859 feet.

There is an inflow of 19,543 cusecs of water. Nearly 7.52 TMC water is stored in the dam and 6.77 TMC will be available for usage.

The water level in the reservoir during the corresponding period last year was 2839.12 feet. Rainfall of 12.40 mm is recorded in the catchment area.

Irrigation Department Assistant Executive Engineer Dharmaraj said that 450 cusecs water is being released from the reservoir to the irrigation canal meant for farmers.
