Installation of medians on Jamboo Savari route takes a hit

Last Updated 20 August 2014, 21:03 IST

Following the surge in vehicle density on the city roads, Police authorities have been making efforts to bring lane system by installing Centre Median Barricade, in the heart of the city, especially on jamboo savari route. However, the proposal hangs in balance, as the Mysore City Corporation authorities are yet to respond to the same.

A stretch of nearly five km that forms the jamboo savari route from Amba Vilas Palace to the Torchlight Parade Ground in Bannimantap, is also one of the busiest roads here, witnessing heavy traffic throughout the year, irrespective of Dasara or not.

It includes several circles- Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Circle, K R Circle, Visvesvaraya Circle, Highway circle, T N Narasimhamurthy Circle, and Millenium Circle, thus forming the procession route.

However, barring up to the Ayurvedic hospital junction, where the barricades (detachable) have been installed, on the remaining the stretch (vulnerable points to prevent mishaps), Police are yet to put up metal barricades on a temporary basis.

Following repeated requisitions from N R traffic police, a letter in this regard was forwarded from the Police Commissioner’s office to MCC Commissioner on March 3, and the response is still awaited.

Police Commissioner M A Saleem confirmed that a proposal in this regard had been submitted to the MCC, the custodians of roads and also the authority to install the barricades. The department had also advised MCC to install detachable barricades.

“Till date, there has been no word from them,” Saleem added.

MCC Commissioner’s office however claimed that it had not received any such proposal.

The only letter received was about overhauling existing CCTV cameras on the route, and also painting the same during Dasara, officials added.
