President of Janata Dal (Secular) State Youth Wing Madhu Bangarappa said that government was evicting bagair hukum cultivators who were dependent upon their lands of revenue and forest since four to five decades.

At a press meet here on Saturday, he said, the youth wing would conduct a padayatra from September 4 to 9 at Shimoga against the act of the government.

He said that government was destroying the crops of farmers who cultivated the lands since 40-50 years rather than providing title deeds to them.

The youth wing president announced that the main priority of JD(S) would be providing title deeds to such cultivators, if it comes to power in coming election.

“Ex-chief minister and JD(S) State president H D Kumaraswamy has also clarified on the matter.” He warned the government that lakh of ryots would take to streets to protest against the issue, if the situation continued.

“It is regretful that the government which swore in the name of farmers is evicting them from their lands.” Madhu Bangarappa said that the leaders in power presently did once raise voice for pro-bagair hukum cultivators demanding for title deeds to them.

“To remind them of their protest, village stay would be done in Shikaripur of Shimoga.

Ex-chief minister H D Kumaraswamy would also stay in a house or a temple on the day.”

The padayatra would start from Kerehalli Talaguppa of Sorab taluk on September 4 and farmers’ convention would be held on September 9 at Shimoga to mark the conclusion of the yatra, he added.

He said there was a need of amendment to be done in present regulations if title deeds were to be issued to bagair hukum cultivators and the padayatra is to demand Central government for amendment in the backdrop of Parliament session.
