Karnataka State Khadi and Village Industry Board (KSKVIB) Chairman Yaluvahalli N Ramesh has said that the board will set up a Khadi Urban Haat at Vijayanagar Third Stage in the city.

At a press conference here on Sunday, Ramesh said that the state government has sanctioned Rs 4.19 crore for establishing the haat. The structure will be constructed on one acre land owned by the Board, he said.

He also said that KSKVIB has taken up several initiatives to brand khadi products. For the first time, the Board had organised a khadi fashion show on February 11.

It will be a regular feature from next year and will be organised at different places in the state to promote khadi products, he said.

He said that the Board, in association with the National Institute of Fashion Designing, has been offering designing courses for khadi artisans to produce a variety of designs.

The Board has also decided to adopt e-trading to sell the products and plans to launch a website about the products in another six months, he said.

Ramesh said that the Board will establish Khadi Plazas at Bengaluru and Belagavi. The plazas will be developed at a cost of Rs 10 crore each and all khadi products will be made available under one roof, he said. In addition, a Common Facility Centre (CFC) will be established at Chikkaballapur, he said. Ramesh said that in order to encourage people involved in the khadi industry, the Board has been offering a stipend of Rs 8 per metre for weaving the fabric.

The Board has submitted a proposal to the state government to increase the amount to Rs 14, he said.
