Khel abhiyan in Chikmagalur district

Informing this to Deccan Herald, Zilla Panchayat President Gayathri Shanthegowda said Rs one lakh grant is being given under the Khel Abhiyan scheme for the development of rural stadiums.
As per the scheme, there should be a 2-acre stadium, a government school and a physical education teacher. The responsibility of the stadium management is given to the teacher once it is developed.

Coaching
The teacher should give coaching to the interested youth of the village besides his students. He will be given a monthly honourarium of Rs 500 for this job, she said. Stadiums have been identified in a total of 52 villages under the scheme, and a proposal has already been sent to the government, said Youth Affairs and Sports Department Assistant Director Vishwanath.

Under the scheme, a rural stadium coming under the Taluk Panchayat limits will be developed at a cost of Rs 5 lakh. A proposal has been sent to develop six such stadiums, he informed. The scheme is expected to usher in new life to the rural stadiums.
