T V Krishnappa, from Sugatur constituency, was elected vice-president, also unopposed.
The JD(S), which won the majority in the APMC poll recently, has therefore grabbed the top post of the Corporation in the taluk.

The poll for the posts of the president and vice-president was organised at the office of the APMC on the outskirts of the city. There were no nominations other than those of Eerappa and Krishnappa, and the Election Officer and Tahsildar Dr Dayanand declared them unopposed winners.

Development promised
New president of the taluk APMC, M Eerappa, has promised to ‘try and make the APMC a model in the entire State’.

He was speaking to mediapersons after taking over as the new president on Friday.
“I have been associated with the APMC the last 25 years, and know the problems here very well,” said Eerappa. He promised to develop the Corporation, ‘with cooperation from farmers, directors, businessmen, middlemen and officers.’

Space and hygiene
The market is facing increasing problems with regard to space. The 28 acres adjacent to the market had been acquired for expansion of the market space. But, the Corporation was not able to use the land as it was yet to pay Rs 7.5 crore, Eerappa explained. The new president said the money would be paid and the land utilised to expand the market area.

The old market would be used for sale of vegetables, grains, etc. The tomato market would be set up in the new area, said Eerappa and added, “As the production of tomato has increased considerably, specific space would be provided for sale of the vegetable.”
Lack of cleanliness is a major problem in the current market area. “Waste disposal is not quick enough, adding to as well as creating most of the hygiene problem. The issue will be dealt with seriously,” promised the president.

“I too am a farmer; therefore, I shall respond to the problems of farmers positively,” said Eerappa and added that a meeting would be conducted with APMC businessmen and middlemen.

Eerappa thanked the JD(S) and the Congress leaders who ‘joined hands and placed a lot of trust in him.’ “I shall work to live up to the trust and expectations they have placed in me.”

Vice-president T V Krishnappa too said the officers would strive to make Kolar APMC a model organisation in entire Karnataka. He offered full support for any work in the Corporation.

APMC secretary G Narayana Raju, deputy secretary Kiran were present.

‘Congratulations’
JD(S) leader K Srinivas Gowda congratulated Eerappa and Krishnappa. Speaking at a felicitation ceremony at his residence, Gowda advised the leaders to work united for the development of the APMC.
